Patient Success Stories

I've been receiving therapy from Matt, and ESMC, for the better part of a decade. We've been through a lot together, from our first appointment about my wonky left ankle and the struggles I was experiencing with my run training for triathlon season, to my more recent Parkinson's diagnosis, to a couple of chronic conditions that resulted from injuries incurred from a few relatively serious cycling accidents.

What I appreciate most about Matt, and his team, is that they see the athlete in me and want to aid me in achieving my goals. As an aging lifelong active athletic participant in numerous sports and endurance events, I've found it difficult to find health professionals who are willing to see past the age spots and grey stubble beard to see the competitive 'athlete' that still burns inside me. Matt does.

When my wife and I retired and moved to cottage country we gained the beautiful scenery and the more laid back pace of life. However, we also inherited the sparse level of health services on offer. When I could get an appointment for therapy, the therapist was attentive and professional but was reluctant to see me as an 'athlete'. They only saw another retired person and despite my protests were reluctant to push me. The result was months of frustration as my condition never improved and my personal fitness level declined resulting in me returning to ESMC and Matt. Immediately Matt was pro-active. He asked me what my goals were. We made a plan of treatment and an exercise regimen to get me back to my true self. Armed with his encouragement, and plan, I returned to my active lifestyle.

Since then I'm back to cycling, kayaking, snowshoeing, hiking, playing hockey and kicking butt on the pickleball court. Last summer I met my goal of completing the 75 km course of the Pedalling For Parkinson's event in Prince Edward County - the longest ride I've done since my diagnosis (this season's goal is 100 km).

From time to time I make the two hour drive south for an appointment with Matt. We catch up, do an assessment, get some treatment, and tweak the exercise plan (I have a maintenance plan I do religiously).

I always know Matt and the ESMC team is there for me, to support me and help me attain my goals. Matt is part of my health team and through their support I have managed to stop the progression of my Parkinson's Disease (touch wood).

I came to you in 2018 with a herniated Disc. I could barely lift my left leg off the ground and had constant pain throughout the leg.

Recently graduating University and pursuing a career in law enforcement, I felt as if my efforts to make it into a law enforcement career was going to fall short due to this injury. I tried physiotherapy at a different clinic at first for 3 months, finding no relief with their therapy. I had feelings of hopelessness when I came to you, thinking I would not be able to become an Officer. Your reassurance and therapy you provided was priceless.

After 3 months of therapy with you, I no longer had any pain in my leg and I regained the flexibility in lower body. 6 years later I am still pain free and I am currently employed full-time in a law enforcement career. I am forever grateful for the work you do and helping me get to where I am today.

Thank you for helping me heal my injury and helping me progress into a career I am able to give back to our communities and country. I recommend anyone and everyone to go to you for their injuries!
